How the order is built
Three subjects a lesson, never one
Mixed on purpose
Every lesson teaches three new skills from different subjects, so a child is never doing twenty of the same kind of problem in a row. A lesson is twenty questions, or sixteen in the seven jelly kid lessons that open the course.
Nothing before what it needs
Each skill lists what it depends on, and the order is built from those dependencies rather than typed out by hand. New work in a lesson stays inside one year, so a lesson never jumps from grade 1 to grade 4 and back.
Old work comes back
A lesson brings earlier skills back as practice, and never work more than a year below what it is teaching. A skill the child has secured returns on a spacing schedule: one day, then three, seven, fourteen and thirty.
Standards
Every skill names the standard it meets
The Common Core code is on each skill in the grown-ups' skill report, with Virginia's Standards of Learning listed alongside. You can switch the report between reading it by topic and reading it by standard.
